Jane C. Edmond is the director of the Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute and a professor and founding chair in the Department of Ophthalmology at Dell Medical School. She is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Her practice focus is on pediatric and adult strabismus, medical and surgical management (50 percent of her surgery cases were adult strab) or pediatric neuro-ophthalmology (one of 25 in the country).

She earned her undergrad degree at The University of Texas at Austin with honors (1981), Phi Beta Kappa. Med school was next at Baylor College of Medicine (1985), Alpha Omega Alpha.

Fellowships: Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (1990) and Neuro-Ophthalmology, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston (2006)

Edmond was a member of the faculty from 1991 to 1997 at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. From 1997 to 2003, she was a faculty member at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Scheie Eye Institute and Wills Eye Hospital, all in Philadelphia. From 2003 to 2017, she resumed her faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Edmond serves on many professional committees: American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO): Recertification Committee, Lifetime Education for the Ophthalmologist (LEO) Committee (past chair), Maintenance of Certification Education Committee (past chair), Basic and Clinical Science Course Committee Volume 6, Awards Committee (past chair), Membership Advisory Committee (chair), Communications Advisory Board, and Eyenet editorial board. She served as a trustee-at-large for the AAO Board of Trustees (2012-2017). Edmond received the AAO Achievement Award and the AAO Senior Achievement Award.

American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS): Membership and Credentials Committee, Program Committee, Nominating Committee, Inter-Organizational Committee, Task Force on Learning Disabilities, Corporate Relations Committee and councilor to the AAO. She served on the AAPOS Board of Directors for eight years. She currently is vice president-elect of AAPOS and will serve as president in 2020 (meeting in Austin!).
