Research Interests

An Interest in evidence-based decision-making has taken him to multiple research areas, including Grand Prix motorcycle racing, NIH sponsored head injury trials, cardiac arrests, cycling injuries, CT utilization, aortic dissections, diagnosis and treatment of hemostatic disorders, and imaging utilization.


Dr. John Bedolla is the Assistant Director of Research Education and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas. He was most recently a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and faculty at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Bedolla holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Plan II Honors Program at University of Texas at Austin, and graduated from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and trained in Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University and Emergency Medicine at St-Luke’s-Roosevelt in New York City.

He is a fellow of the Texas Leadership and Advocacy Program of the Texas College of Emergency Physicians, and is a member of multiple professional societies, including the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the Society for Medical Decision Making, the American Stroke Society, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and the International Council of Motorsports Sciences. Dr. Bedolla is a reviewer for the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine and received the “Reviewer of the Year” award in 2015. Dr. Bedolla combines his research with filmmaking, writing and directing 6 medical risk management videos per year. His videos are used in over 30 hospitals in Texas.

Dr. Bedolla has served in many leadership roles, including Medical Student Clerkship Director, Hospital Chief of Staff, Morbidity and Mortality Director, Peer Review Director and Physician Liaison for a state medical board. Currently, Dr. Bedolla is the Director of Risk Management for Emergency Service Partners, which has a volume of over 1.2 million patient visits per year. Dr. Bedolla is also Creator and Director of SafetyCoreTM, an evidence-based medical risk reduction program.

Dr. Bedolla’s clinical interests are in general emergency medicine with a focus on risk reduction through critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making.
