Jorge Almeida is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Dell Medical School and director of the Bipolar Disorder Integrated Practice Unit. Almeida completed his medical degree, psychiatric training and a Ph.D. focusing on neuroimaging in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2005, he joined the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) at the University of Pittsburgh, where he initiated a productive neuroimaging research career. In 2013, he joined Brown University where he completed psychiatric residency training. In 2017, Almeida joined the Department of Psychiatry at Dell Medical School.

Almeida’s neuroimaging research focuses on the use of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to investigate biomarkers of mood disorders, especially bipolar disorder, using standard neuroimaging data analysis along with effective connectivity and pattern recognition analysis. He also works at the Bipolar Disorder Integrated Practice Unit, a specialized, coordinated and competitive out-patient-centered care team that is evidence-based and outcome-driven to achieve higher levels of health care value at the lowest cost.
