Abstract

The constitution of the World Health Organization states that health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease [1]. The organization also defines quality of life as individuals' perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns [1]. An individual's perception of his or her quality of life is influenced by the person's physical health, psychological state, level of independence, social relationships, personal beliefs, and relationship to his or her environment [1]. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is the subset of quality of life pertaining to health.
